Preppy Casual...

Another preppy outfit post...

I bought the bag today and knew it would go perfectly with my cream and black pumps. Plaid is very prominent this season, so I chose the shirt with a grey sweater over the top to feminise it. Adding the red head band distracts from the monochromatic colour scheme and gives an extra preppy touch, along with the pearl bracelet.

-Blue Jeans
-Black and cream, plaid shirt
-Grey sweater
-Black and cream pumps (with patent toe and a bow!)
-Cream bag with black patent handles and base.
-Diamond earrings and necklace
-Pearl Bracelet
-Red headband

Of Outfits and Bravery...

Blair/Chuck
I've posted before about how my friends and I have a tendency to play 'Gossip Girl', by which I mean we all dress up in our most stylish outfits, pretend we are super rich and go out for dinner/partying/to some event that is appropriate.

Well I have been clearing out my wardrobe in preparation for going to Uni and also kind of re building it: I realised after getting rid of half of my belongings that now I don't wear uniform five days a week I only had about two outfits. Rubbish. So shopping has been a steady process of a few items hear and there etc. Today, though, I purchased the final item that will complete a what has been a -work-in-progress 'Gossip Girl' outfit. A super prep 'Blair Waldorf' outfit to be exact.

I've always had a slightly preppy fashion sense, I like button down shirts, sweaters, cable knit, argyle, polo shirts etc. but I think this is one of my best creations yet...

The photos are a little blurry, but I think you get the general idea...

The outfit entails:
- Navy high waisted shorts
-White collar Shirt
-Argyle sweater vest
-Black Jasper Conran military style cropped jacket
-Red tights
-Black pumps
-Black bag
-Cream satin headband
-Diamond earrings and matching necklace

Inspiration:

Thank you Blair Waldorf.

Now all I have to do is wait until the autumn and see if I actually have enough courage to wear the outfit...

Just a random post really, it has no real point nor motive but I think some of the best things spawn from idol thumbs as it were. I'm Going to London next week; we're taking one of my friends to the British Museum because he has never been. It should be very fun, I am in the process of compiling a Road Trip Mix for the drive down. Classic Rock abounds.

Also a photo of my friends and I (looking very tired) from our trip to Italy:

An Italian summer...

*Waves from Florence*

Okay, so I just arrived in Florence from Rome and the train journey was quite pleasant. Italian trains are by far superior to that of the UK with their cleanliness and nice comfy seats!

I've been in Italy for nine days now and have stayed in three different places; Palermo, Sorrento and Rome. I can't believe already over half way through my trip, only Florence and Venice left. *is sad* So far though it has been amazing! I am entirely in love with Italy! The sights have been incredible and the weather has been great through out, it is getting nice and cool as we move north, though I guess that is a comparative statement given how freakishly and uncomfortably hot it was in Sicily.

Between the three of us; Myself and the friends I am travelling with, we have had lost luggage, mosquito bites, celebrity sightings, lesbian encounters, drunken hot chocolate spillages, prime nun-spotting, the bum-bag game, strenuous climbs and a whole slough of other stories which must be left for a later date, when I have more time and visual aids.

I am also so glad we decided to stay in Hostels rather than camp; I love the atmosphere they have and the opportunity they provide to meet other people. We now have friends in Canada, Australia, New York, Belgium, Winchester and a Canadian who lives in London. It has been great and I will be so sad to have to go back to the UK and stay there for the rest of the summer. Backpacking is a life style that I could definitely become accustomed to.

So. A week of crap, followed by a Saturday of crap.

I hate my family. And my job, and the fact that I seem to keep putting on weight even though I'm exercising like a crazy person. What is this madness. I'm fat and I hate my life.

Crap.

Of insomnia and lists...

  • Apr. 9th, 2008 at 3:10 AM
Razor

So, insomnia strikes back. Crap. It's three-thirty in the morning and I wide awake. What is wrong with the world? This inability to sleep has led me to the wonderful world of LJ, were, if I'm honest, I have no idea what to post so I've decided to write a list.

Things I Like:
-Television.
I really like watching TV, not just sitting in front of the box and flicking channels but watching specific shows. At the moment the shows include: Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural, One Tree Hill, Barefoot Contessa, Moonlight, Gilmore Girls (on DVD), Firefly (also on DVD) and Dark Angel re-runs on the UK Sci-Fi channel.

-Books
What is life without literature? Big fat nothing would be the answer. I LOVE to read, and, as an English student I may be a little biased, but if books did not exist neither would we. Story telling shapes lives; we all have a favourite character, or novel, or moment in literary history that defines who we have become and continue to become as we read more and discover new stories and new characters who shape our lives. Literature = MASSIVELY important!

-Photographs
I like recording events in my life, by taking pictures. Photo albums define us, they can demonstrate an entire life and give an insight that I love to think about. They raise questions like:  I wonder what that person is doing now? or, How did that feel? What happened after that moment? How did this change things? I think what photographs a person chooses to display is very telling.

Now for just a plain list: I can't be bothered to out a reason behind everything, and honestly, somethings don't actually have a reason.

-Rain
-Clean sheets
-Paper Lanterns
-Movie Nights
-Scarves
-Candles
-Trains
-Cities
-Bookshelves
-Coffee
-Typewriters
-Window boxes
-Fire escapes
-Pillows
-Sunday afternoons
-Handbags
-Getting ready to go out
-Snow
-Paper coffee cups
-Airports
-Open Windows
-Frosty mornings
-Gerberas
-Finding new places to go
-Big houses
-Kitchens
-Falling asleep on the sofa

I think that'll do for now.

Actually, I just remembered. I made a collage for my friend for her birthday: we've always had this dream that oneday we'll move out to New York or Boston and live together in a tiny, eccentric and we always had loads of fun imagining what we would have in it and what it would look like and how we would spend out time. I thing it's pretty cool and it says loads about us as friends and what we want in the future.

Of Extended Cuts and I Love Yous...

  • Apr. 6th, 2008 at 3:54 PM
*dies*

 Holy. Frikkin. Cow.

So, I just watched the extended cut of Unfinished Business, and I almost died. As if an almost feature length episode wasn't enough, we got a whole bunch of angsty/sexy/hot/love pilots to boot! *goes and dies in a happy squishy pilot!love place*

Just thought I would post a few random thoughts and pictures, maybe the odd video clip...

As a whole I felt that Unfinished Business was a great episode anyway, but this extended cut was so  much more profound and there were scenes that had been cut form the original that really made what was taking place much more moving.

Of paper lanterns and pathology...

-- So tonight I saw the first UK aired trailer for Milo Ventimiglia's new movie

-- Also I got paper lanterns for my bedroom! I have always wanted paper lanterns, I'm not really sure why, but they are just something that I love. I think they have this kind of quirky, interesting look that makes a room so much more fun.

-- And I admit that I sold my soul to another teen drama of epic and somewhat unrealistic proportions. One Tree Hill. Yes, after abstaining for four seasons, my friend finally roped me into having a season five mini-marathon with her and dag nabit, I'm hooked. I knew the basic outline of character relationships from the odd episode I had seen over the years and the massive post-One-Tree-Hill-viewing rants my friend would dump on me. So all I needed was a little explanation here and there and away I was obsessing over psycho-nanny trying to breakup Nathan and Haley and how crazy Peyton was acting over Lindsay even though you know Lucas will never actually marry her because 'Peyton and Lucas = True Love Always' , and how Brooke should totally hook-up with cute bartender guy,and oh God I'm going to hell. I have to admit, I ordered the first season on DVD from Amazon on Saturday.

Halloween and other drunken escapades...

So... Halloween was fun. I am aware that I am posting this a little late but I have only just uploaded my pictures, and Oh My, what pictures I have....

I am on the left, and on the right is my friend Sarah who decided to hug the hand dryer. Yes, she was VERY drunk. You sadly cannot see either of our costumes here, which is annoying because Sarah was a spider and I was an Angel of death and had on big black, feathered wings.

Not my fingers.

Just... confused?

Just a taster.

Of Open Days and Sushi...

Books
So, Wednesday was the Uinversity open day up at Lancaster where my older brother is in his third and final year and, coinsidentally, my best friend's sister is in her second year. Both Izzy (best friend) and I want to study English Lit, and given that Lancaster is one of the best Uni's in the country for English, we thought we might as well abuse our siblings and go and stay with them up there. My brother lives in a house off campus with four other smelly third year guys and Amy (Izzie's sister) still lives in halls, so we decided it would be best for all to bunk on Amy's floor for a night, along with Laura, our other frined who wants to study Geology.

The trip began early on Wednesday morning when I had to get up and be at Izzy's house for eight-thirty, meaning, as she lives six miles away, that I had to leave home at eight fifteen. Tessa (Izzy's  mum) has an old friend who lives in Lancaster and lectures at the University twice a week, she thought given that the trio (myself, Izzy and Laura) were going up it would be the perfect opportunity to visit, and so provided transport in the form of her rather comfy Vauxhall Astra. And so the journey begins...

We set off from Izzy's at about nine-ish and arrived in Lancaster at roughly twelve-thirity. After greeting Amy and her friend Lydia, who we all know from school, we dropped our overnight stuff in her room and began the trek to the Great Hall where the official Open Day events were set to begin. After an introductory talk from the Dean everyone was split up into groups divided by the subject they are interested in studying. At this point we said goodbye to Laura and made plans to meet up after tours and subject talks. As my brother has been at Lancaster for two years I was already fairly familiar with the campus and his Girlfriend, Sophie, had given me an 'insiders guided tour,' as she called it last year, so while the tour was enjoyable for me it wasn't really necessary. It was the subject talk I was interested in.

Great! The subject talk was great, the professor was enthusiastic, clear, she really got her point across and was obviously passionate about her subject. She speciallises in Literature and film; something that really fascinates me and I would love to study. I got a chance to have a breif conversation with her, which was really good, and helped run home just how driven the university is on teaching and learning rather than targets and government schemes.

I'll skip over the rest of the afternoon, which  mostly revolves around wandering the campus and hanging out in Amy's room, the exciting part was going out in for dinner. So, our original plans, that were organised waaay in advance of the Lancaster visit, were to go to a costume party; Reverse Pimps and Hos. Sounds great, I know, but I figure it would be kinda fun to dress as a Pimp and see a whole bunch of Bombers dressed up as Hos (Amy is a Cheerleader), but alas, the plans changed. So we decided we would go out for dinner in town, but to make it more interesting we all wanted to get dressed up, no, not in costumes just dressed up. We went for a kind of Gossip Girl theme; Manhattan Debutant, Upper East Side, Sunday Brunch, Prep School. You get the jist.

I was actually really pleased with my outfit, because, of course, I had the 'Oh-God-What-am-I-going-to-wear' crisis! I decided to go for more of the Blair Waldorf look, mostly because she wears the colours I like and I have similar skin and hair tone to the actress, also I am not tall or skinny enough to gor for the Serenna style.

Dinner itself was AMAZING! We went to this little Japanese restaurant and had sushi. And when I say sushi, I mean Sushi. This was the real deal, not just California roles but proper made in front of you sushi. I had a seaweed salad to start, actual seaweed not just shredded cabbage, followed by Tuna and Salmon sushi and I shared a few California roles with Izzy. God, wasabi, soy sauce, raw fish and tea. What more could a girl want?

Ice cream. Ice cream is the more a girl could want. That's right, after Sushi we went back to Lydia's place and made Ice cream sundays. Just small ones, but Sundays none the less. Altogether, that was one damn good meal! Following the meal we caught a bus back to campus and bunked down in Amy's room to watch 'Splash'.

And so concludes an exciting trip with debutant style, sushi and vintage Tom Hanks. A good day.

Okay I just got back from my holiday in Egypt. WOW! I loved it, it was totally amazing, and more details will come. But first in an exciting fangirly moment I must post this:

I was watching Supernatural this evening, Nightshifter to be exact and I noticed something I found entirely amusing.

The ties Sam and Dean are wearing at the beginning of the ep when they pose as FBI agents:

They are EXACTLY like the tie I used to have to wear to school. I mean if you walked into a Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School assembly you would be overrun by maroon blazers and striped ties exactly like that! I even found my very old and scabby school tie

Oh, my.

I went to see the new Transformers movie last night, and lets just say I almost died! It is really incredible; the special effects, acting, script and premise all come together to make a REALLY great movie! I don't really know what I was expecting but it certainly exceeded all of my expectations!

Shia LaBouf is amazing as a leading man, he adds so much humour to the role and really brings Sam alive. Josh Duhamel is gorgeous as ever and plays a US special forces Captain very well, throw in John Voight as Secretary of Defence and you have an already brilliant cast. And we haven't even mentioned the Autobots yet.

Raining...

Milo train track
It's raining again. Not that is really a surprise these days, especially in Lincolnshire; it feels like we haven't had a dry since God was a lad. It is beginning to depress me, don't get me wrong i like rain as much as anyone; it is, in fact, one of my favouite types of weather, but this constant gray, heavy, trilling rain sucks at your very soul. Especially after so long. I feel like i'm stuck in a Jeffrey Eugenides novel.
